Spring was definitely in the air and the ground. The remains of the recent rain turning fresh dirt to mud was quickly evaporating. Enamored by the shimmering sunlight on the fuzzy black nose of the most curious little calf, Jane instantly grabs for her camera. Stopping long enough to request permission to photograph these peaceful creatures she was anxious to capture the moment.
While being shown so graciously around the barns we learned that this is one of the busiest times of year for the owners. Staying up throughout the night to care for the 50-70 little calves and mommas Bev and Bill Roe, owners of Pedros Angus, have been deprived of precious sleep due to checking the momma cows every 2-3 hours during a busy “calving season.” The high standard of care was obvious as this was not a planned visit, and everything looked well tended to especially after a heavy rain.
Beautifully capturing the vivid black beauty of these creatures, local photography enthusiast Jane Staton gives us a look into this peaceful countryside.
The Art of Jane Visits Pedro’s Angus
This local gem is located merely a few miles from Hueston Woods and not much farther is Brookville, Indiana.
Pedro’s Angus is not open to the public, and you may contact them via there website.
You may see many of their beautiful creatures grazing on the green pastures as you drive out on a lazy afternoon.
The options for enjoying the great outdoors are plentiful for young and old alike for quiet alone time or a fabulous family day out in the country.
Next week we will be featuring Hueston Woods.
